My best purchase of 2014! Leave the old, uncomfortable chairs behind.
It sort of surprises me that humans haven’t adopted these for all chairs yet. Not only is it comfortable, but it really encourages movement and fires new patterns for activity because it’s almost impossible to sit on it in the same mundane and uncomfortable ways that we generally do with chairs. Even when I’m not devoting time exclusively toward exercise, I’m moving around with it all the time. What I enjoy most about the balance ball is that it blurs the lines between exercise and sitting and is therefore more motivating and encouraging to move. When I start feeling the usual aches I’ve become used to, I notice that I start moving around to correct it with this instead of sitting on my feet or propping my legs up like I used to. Sometimes I’ll just lay completely horizontal on it for a little while until my back feels better, and it’s great. In addition, when I am exercising, I’ve been able to naturally and intuitively target portions of my abs that before felt a lot more cumbersome because of the hard floor factor. The reason I like the Gaiam one in particular is because it’s a lot sturdier than some that I’ve used. The material is really thick, and the pump works quite well despite the feeling I got when I first started pumping. There are 3 little white stakes included to seal the air pocket. You’ll get a heavy chemical-laden smell out of the box that will go away in a few days. That’s with any of these. To expedite it, it’s important to soak it with soap and hand wash it before you inflate it. These things are made in plastic factories, not in daisy fields. I’ve sent things back before (like weights) that were unbearably harmful and smelly, but this is reasonable and worth the quality trade-off.Overall, I think this ball is going to last, and like I said, it’s great for exercise, posture, movement, and sitting. I don’t miss the so-called “back support” of a chair now that I’ve been using this. It never existed!

    Good quality
Easy to inflate. Good air retention. Pump works well. Good therapy ball as well as fun for the kids to play with, even in the pool.

FUN (but not easy!) way to get toned up!!!
I purchased this kit to get toned up at home and help me lose 5-10 lbs. I am 5’4″ and 126 lbs and this ball is the perfect size for me (I’m glad that I followed one reviewer’s advice and got the 65 cm instead of the 55 cm). I like that this ball is made from thicker rubber than another ball I’ve used in the past. It seems very sturdy and durable. I love that it comes with a resistance band, as I was looking to buy one of those anyway. I wasn’t planning on using the DVD at all, thinking that it would be too short and easy like many DVD workouts that come free with other exercise kits. But this one is actually really good- I couldn’t even get through the whole thing the first time I watched it. (You will definitely sweat and need to catch your breath!) The arms and upper body part was easy enough but once the instructor got into the legs and lower body I could only do half of that section before I had to stop. I think I’ll do one section (there are 3: upper body, lower body, abs) per day until I can do them all together in one shot. Definitely worth trying out the DVD! I like that this workout is sort of a yoga-style ball workout. There is a lot of stretching to warm up and cool down your muscles but it does get tough when she starts going faster and combining several moves in one. Love it! I’m very happy with this purchase and recommend this to anyone looking to tone up at home but have fun (the first thing you’re instructed to do is to bounce up and down on the ball) while doing it. I will probably purchase the cardio ball DVD to add to my workout 🙂

DVD dysfunctional, GREAT company to work with. Tips on ball sizing:
For sitting long periods of time on the ball, going a size up is a good idea, but I have found that you want to stick with your size for the stretches and workouts to get the most out of them. For instance, I am 5’4″ or 5’5″ and definitely need to go back and buy the smaller ball for the workouts. But I prefer either the 65″ or the 75″ for sitting for any period of time. Getting two sizes is a really worthwhile investment, imo. I always sit on a ball or on a balance cushion (when not in a recliner) b/c of hip and back issues, and it makes SUCH a difference.

You need to take your time in pumping it up to full size. It tells you in the instruction booklet.

Great product! Within about 20 minutes, I was able to inflate to about 80% with a battery-powered air pump, then finished the inflation with the hand pump included in the package. The sizing guide tape included in the package is very helpful and prevents over-inflation. The material is grippy and feels sturdy.
